Movie Review: Star Wars – The Last Jedi

Movie Review

One of the biggest films of the tear comes right before we enter 2018. Star Wars – The Last Jedi has created a ton of buzz with a lot of money. In its opening weekend, the film grossed $529 million in revenue. In addition to its enormous amount of revenue, the critics show the franchise some love with this film. Rotten Tomatoes has given it a 92% fresh out of 100%. Here are a few key takeaways from the film (without any spoilers) that will make you want to go see it this holiday season.

Critic’s Reaction

Critics are loving this installment of the Disney owned franchise because it pays respect to the series yet builds more upon it like never before. Many are saying that there are many unexpected turns that are giving fans something to talk about. A major reason why critics are giving well-rounded reviews is that it has the ability to entertain those who love the franchise and those who are unfamiliar with the previous films as well. They are also calling the film electric and is the perfect winter flick to see in theaters.

The Plot

This installment of the series picks up right where “The Force Awakens” dropped off two years ago. The actual plot itself is a bit tangled but from a broader view, you understand the adversity between the two groups. The performers within the film guide you through the subtle nuances that make the story so tangled. The director, Rian Johnson, stays true to the series’ rules and expectations while adding another layer to the story. The inherent good versus evil is still apparent while adding more to the story.

Manohla Dargis of the New York Times wrote, “ Even so, he [Rian Johnson] has to convince you that these searching, burgeoning heroes and villains fit together emotionally, not simply on a Lucasfilm whiteboard and that they have the requisite lightness and heaviness, the ineffable spirit and grandeur to reinvigorate a pop-cultural juggernaut.”

Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley are stellar in their second LucasFilm movie. Mark Hamill also returns to help push the story forward as well.

If you are a diehard Star Wars fan, or you want a good film to see in theaters this holiday season, The Last Jedi is worth the watch.
